About Melissa

Before you choose a therapist, you want to know something about them. I also think it is nice to see their face and hear their voice, if you can make that happen. Knowing that, this page is designed so that you can put a face to the name, and so that you can learn a little about me. I am always happy to answer any questions via phone or email, so please contact me if I can answer any questions or give you further information.

Thank you for stopping by my website! In the twenty-two years that I have been providing mental health services, my goal has been to provide compassionate, professional services to people with many different difficulties.

Professional Training:

I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Texas Christian University, and a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Nebraska. I received my formal life coach education from the Institute for Life Coach Training and Certified Divorce Coach.

Experience:

My mental health experience includes providing counseling for relationship difficulties, depression and anxiety, bipolar disorder, anger management, behavior disorders, family addiction patterns, and recovery from abuse. Prior to working in the mental health and coaching fields, I performed social work services in the areas of domestic and sexual violence, juvenile diversion, homelessness/near homelessness, community resources, and immigration matters.

I have over twenty-two years of experience in the mental health field, working in both non-profit and private agencies. Across those years, I have developed working relationships with many physicians, psychologists and psychiatrists in the area. I have operated a private solo practice for sixteen years.

My background in the fields of domestic violence and sexual assault have led me to seek additional training in how to treat the trauma that these situations cause.
I have experience in working with victims, witnesses and offenders of domestic violence and sexual assault. Through this work, I have collaborated with professionals from safe shelters, probation and law enforcement, to help all members of families affected by these crimes. I have also lent my services to the state law enforcement training facility by assisting to train new officers in responding to these types of calls.

The Addition of Coaching Services:

I decided to add professional coaching to my services seventeen years ago. Working with families in different times of transition, including divorce, remarriage and the blending of new families, is a rewarding piece of my work. When families go through those transitions, they often must learn new skills and abilities that they didn't expect they would ever need. Getting a personal divorce coach is an excellent way to get the education and skills necessary to make it through those transitions. While I have experience in providing life coaching for many issues, I have a passion for helping families who experience divorce. I began to specialize my coaching services for divorcing families because I have seen that divorcing families navigate this major life change much more successfully when they have a kind of 'personal assistant' guiding them along the way.
